See this button?
My hand likes this button.
I say something awkward, someone is late to meet me, I make eye contact with a boy, and I just:
But good news!
There's an override.
It's called the Holy Ghost.
Usually when we talk about feeling the Spirit, it's about a really good Relief Society lesson, or when we've been in the depths of sorrow and prayed for help, or when we're in the temple, but the Holy Ghost is also available to us when we're stressed out over homework or terrified of a second date.
He can sooth your everyday troubles.
He can put your doubts to sleep.
He can disconnect you from those electric fears.
But only if you let Him.
The Holy Ghost can't override your panic button if you have both hands firmly pressed down on it. You have to trust God and learn to open up a place in your heart for His Spirit to enter.
I struggle with the panic button, but more than that I struggle with the fact that I struggle with the panic button. I hate the fear and anxiety that makes me turn away from situations or people that could bring me joy. I hate feeling like I'm not brave.
But, if I remember to invite the Spirit into my life, I know that I can be made whole and find peace.
Life is crazy.
There will definitely be times when that panic button looks like a good option, but please hold out for a better one:
the peace of God.
